UPSC's online application asks for the photograph and signature as JPG files between 20 KB and 300 KB, with each side between 350 and 1000 pixels. Choose Photograph or Signature, drop in a picture from your phone or a scan, and line it up in the frame. The tool saves a JPG inside both limits and shows a checklist before you download. For signatures it whitens the paper and fits the signature to the box. Nothing is uploaded.

The photograph

Use a recent colour photo against a plain light background, facing the camera, with your face filling most of the frame. Zoom in until your face and the top of your shoulders fill the frame.

The signature

Sign in black ink on plain white paper and photograph it in good light. Clean up paper removes shadows, and Fit signature makes it fill the frame. If your notice asks for more than one signature on the sheet, photograph the whole sheet and use Fit signature.

Questions

What is the UPSC photo size in KB?

Between 20 KB and 300 KB, as a JPG, according to UPSC's online application instructions. The same limits apply to the signature.

What pixel size does UPSC accept?

Each side between 350 and 1000 pixels. The tool makes the photo 350 × 450 pixels and the signature 700 × 350 pixels, growing within that range only if a file would be below 20 KB.

Are my files uploaded?

No. They are made in your own browser and never leave your device.
