    How it works

Podcast Name Generator is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.

    How the names are made

A good podcast name says what the show is about, or at least hints at it, and is easy to say, spell and search for. So the generator starts from your words: it takes the nouns out of your description and builds names around them in a dozen shapes, a classic format ("The Gardening Hour"), a twist after the topic ("Gardening Uncovered"), a verb in front ("Growing Gardening"), two of your words joined, an alliterative pairing, a made-up word, a leading phrase chosen for the tone you picked. Every name is put together on your device from word lists; nothing is sent anywhere, and no two people get the same list.

    Choosing one

Save the names you like as you go; the shortlist sits under the list and copies in one click. Then say each one aloud as if introducing the show, and imagine it in a podcast app's search box: short names win, names that need spelling out lose, and a name that already belongs to a show in your category will cost you listeners who end up at the wrong one. Search the big podcast apps for the name, check the trademark register for your country, and see whether the domain and the social handles are free before you commit.

What this tool does not do

    • It does not check whether a name is taken. Search the podcast apps, the trademark office and a domain registrar yourself.
    • It does not write with a language model; the names come from patterns and word banks, which is why they stay on topic and why the odd one will be clumsy. Press More like these for another dozen.
    • The shortlist is not saved anywhere; copy it before you leave the page.

    Questions

How do I come up with a podcast name?

Start from what the show is about and who it is for, then try the usual shapes: the topic with a format word (Hour, Show, Diaries), the topic with a twist (Uncovered, Explained, After Dark), a verb in front (Chasing, Rethinking), two words from the topic joined, or an alliteration. This generator does exactly that from your own words so you can see the options side by side.

Does it check whether a name is taken?

No. Search the podcast apps for the name, check the trademark register for your country and see whether the domain and social handles are free. A name already used by a show in your category will send your listeners to the wrong one.

Should the name say what the show is about?

Usually yes, or at least hint at it: people find shows by searching for a topic, and a name that contains the topic word is found more often. Clever names work when the host is already known.

How long should a podcast name be?

Short enough to say in a breath and to fit in a podcast app's listing, usually one to four words. Apps cut long titles in their lists, and a name that needs explaining is hard to recommend.

    Can I keep a word I want?

Yes. Type it under A word you want in the name and most of the names will include it.

Why are some names a bit odd?

They are built from patterns and word banks, not written by a person, so a few will not fit. Press More like these for another twelve; the ones you saved stay.

    Is anything sent anywhere?

No. The names are put together by code in your browser, and the shortlist exists only on the page until you copy it.

    Is it free?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up.
