Need to sign a contract, lease, form or permission slip that came as a PDF? Open it here, create your signature by drawing it with a finger or mouse, typing your name in a handwriting style, or uploading a photo of your signature on paper, and drag it into place on the page. Add your initials, today's date and any text, put your initials on every page with one click, then download the signed PDF. There is no account, no watermark and no limit, and because everything happens in your browser, neither the document nor your signature ever leaves your device.
How it works
Sign PDF is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.
Three ways to make your signature
| Way | Best for | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Draw | Phones and tablets, where a finger or pen feels natural | Sign larger than you need; it shrinks neatly onto the page |
| Type | Computers without a touch screen | Pick the style that looks most like your own hand |
| Upload | Your real signature, exactly as you write it | Sign in dark ink on plain white paper and photograph it straight on, in good light |
Signing a contract or form
Read the whole document before you sign. Put your signature on the signature line, then add the date next to it if the form asks for one. Contracts and leases often ask for initials on every page to show each page was read: place your initials once and use Every page. When you are done, check the downloaded PDF, then send it back the way the sender asked.
Electronic and digital signatures
An electronic signature is a mark you add to show you agree, such as a signature drawn on the page, which is what this tool makes. A digital signature is a separate, certificate-based seal that proves a file has not changed since it was signed, used by some government portals, banks and courts. If a form says it needs a digital signature or a certificate, a signature added here is not enough on its own.
What it does
- Draw your signature with a finger, pen or mouse
- Type your name in one of four handwriting styles
- Upload a photo of your signature, with the paper made transparent
- Add initials, the date in the format you choose, and any text
- Drag and resize on any page, or put initials on every page at once
- Black or blue ink, and pages turned sideways are handled correctly
- No upload, no account, no watermark
Questions
Is a signature added this way legally valid?
In the United States, the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act says a signature or contract may not be denied legal effect solely because it is in electronic form. The same act lists exceptions, including wills, adoption, divorce and other family law, and court documents. Many other countries have similar laws. When in doubt, ask whoever sent you the document whether an electronic signature is accepted; this is general information, not legal advice.
Is this a digital signature with a certificate?
No. It places a picture of your signature, your initials and the date on the page, which is what most everyday forms, contracts and letters ask for. It does not add a certificate-based digital signature, which some government portals and banks require.
Can I sign on my phone?
Yes. Open the PDF, press Signature and draw with your finger in the box. Drag the signature into place and pull its corner to resize it. It works in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android.
How do I put my initials on every page?
Press Initials, create them and drag them into place on one page. With them selected, press Every page and a copy goes in the same spot on every other page.
Can I sign a PDF that has a password?
Not while it is protected. PDFs that need a password to open, or that are locked against changes, cannot be signed here. Remove the protection first, or ask the sender for an unprotected copy.
Is my signature saved anywhere?
No. Your signature exists only in this browser tab while you work, so you can sign several PDFs in a row. It is never uploaded or stored, and closing the tab removes it.
Will the PDF look different after signing?
No. The pages stay as they were, with your signature, initials, date and text added on top. Links, bookmarks and fillable fields are kept.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of documents or pages.
