A pitch shifter, sometimes called a key changer, moves a whole song higher or lower without speeding it up or slowing it down. Singers use it to put a backing track in a key that suits their voice, musicians to play along with a recording in an easier key, and teachers to match a song to a class.

Getting the best sound
- Move as little as you need. A change of a few semitones is hard to notice; large changes are easier to hear.
- Use Keep voices natural for singing. It stops raised vocals sounding squeaky and lowered vocals sounding too deep. Leave it off for instrumental music.
- Save as WAV or MP3 at 320 kbps when the result will be played loudly or edited further.
Speed and length stay the same
Playing a record faster raises its pitch and shortens it. This tool separates the two, so the song keeps its tempo and its exact length, and it still lines up with a video, a dance routine or a lyric sheet.

How do I change the key of a song?
Choose the song, move the slider up or down by the number of semitones you need, and press Play preview to check it. Then press Save in the new key. One semitone is one piano key, so moving from C to D is +2.
Does changing the pitch change the speed?
No. The song keeps exactly the same tempo and length; only how high or low it sounds changes.
How many semitones should I move a song to suit my voice?
A comfortable key is often only a few semitones away from the original. Lower the song if the high notes are a strain, raise it if the low notes are too deep, and sing along with the preview before you save.
Does it lower the sound quality?
Small changes of a few semitones sound very natural. The further you move a song, the more you may hear a slight smearing on drums and a change in the character of voices, and large changes are usually clearly audible. For a big change, save as WAV or MP3 at 320 kbps so no quality is lost in saving as well.
What does Keep voices natural do?
Raising a song normally makes voices sound small and squeaky, and lowering it makes them sound large and deep. This option keeps the natural character of a voice while its pitch changes. Leave it off for music without singing.
What are cents?
A cent is a hundredth of a semitone. Use fine tuning to match a recording to an instrument that is slightly out of tune, or for A = 432 Hz tuning, which is about 32 cents lower than standard A = 440 Hz.
Can it find the key of my song?
No. Choose the key if you know it, and the tool shows the new key after the change. Without it, the change is still shown in semitones.
Can I change the speed instead?
Not with this tool, which keeps the speed exactly as it is.
Is my music uploaded?
No. The song is opened, changed and saved by your browser on your own device, and it is never sent to us or anyone else.
