How it works

Wheel Spinner is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.

How the winner is picked

When you spin, the winner is chosen first, by a random number from your browser's secure random generator, the same source used for passwords and encryption. Every entry has exactly the same chance, and the method avoids the small bias a careless "random number modulo the count" would add. The wheel then turns five to seven times and slows to a stop inside the winning slice, at a random point within it, so the animation shows the pick rather than deciding it.

Entries

Type or paste one entry per line: names, numbers, tasks, restaurants, prizes or questions. Blank lines are ignored and up to 500 entries fit, although names only show on the wheel up to 120. To give something a better chance, add it more than once. Shuffle mixes the order on the wheel, which does not change anyone's chances, and Sort puts the list in order.

Taking winners off

For a raffle, a team draw or picking who goes next, tick "Take each winner off the wheel" and every winner is removed from the list after their spin, or use "Remove it and spin again" one at a time. The results list keeps every winner, newest first, so you can read out the order afterwards.

Is the wheel spinner really random?

Yes. The winner comes from your browser's secure random generator, and every entry has exactly the same chance. The spin animation just shows the result.

Can I remove the winner after each spin?

Yes. Tick Take each winner off the wheel, or press Remove it and spin again after a spin. The results list keeps everyone who was picked.

How many entries can the wheel hold?

Up to 500. Names are drawn on the wheel up to 120 entries; with more, the slices are too thin to read but the pick still works.

Can I give one entry a better chance?

Yes, type it more than once. Two copies of a name in a list of ten gives it a 2 in 10 chance.

Will my list be there next time?

Yes, on the same device and browser: the list is saved in your browser's storage. It is never sent to us. Press Clear to remove it.

Is anything sent anywhere?

No. The wheel runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us.
