How to use JSON to CSV Converter

  1. Add your JSONPaste it into the box, press Open a file, or drop a .json file on the box. The table preview appears straight away.
  2. Check the rows and choose the formatIf the file has several lists, pick one under Rows from. Choose CSV or Excel, and for CSV the separator.
  3. DownloadPress Download CSV or Download Excel, or Copy to paste the CSV somewhere else.

Paste JSON from an API, an export or a log, or open a .json file, and see it as a table straight away. Nested objects become columns such as customer.name, lists become readable cells, and when a file holds several lists you choose which one becomes the rows. Download the table as CSV with commas, semicolons or tabs, set to open cleanly in Excel, or as a real Excel workbook with a frozen, bold header row. It works the other way too: turn a CSV file into a list of JSON objects or JSON Lines, with numbers and true or false recognised. Your data stays in your browser the whole time.

How it works

JSON to CSV Converter is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.

Other conversions

How JSON becomes a table

In the JSONIn the CSV or Excel file
A list of objectsOne row for each object, one column for each key
A nested object, such as customer.nameIts own column named with a dot
A list of plain values, such as tagsOne cell, values joined with semicolons
A list of objects inside a recordOne cell holding that list as JSON text
A key some records do not haveAn empty cell in those rows
nullAn empty cell

JSON from an API

API responses usually wrap the records with extra information, such as a page number or a status. The converter looks through the file for lists and picks the largest list of records for the rows; the Rows from menu lets you pick another list. For logs and exports that put one JSON object on each line, the JSON Lines format is recognised too.

Opening the CSV in a spreadsheet

Excel set up for the United States or the United Kingdom expects commas, while in much of Europe it expects semicolons, because the comma is used for decimals there. If all your data lands in one column, download again with the other separator, or choose Excel (.xlsx), which opens the same way everywhere.

What it does

  • JSON to CSV, JSON to Excel (.xlsx) and CSV to JSON in one place
  • Nested objects become dotted columns; lists join into one readable cell
  • Finds the rows inside wrapped API responses, and lets you pick the list
  • Reads JSON Lines, and keeps long ID numbers exact
  • Comma, semicolon or tab separators, with accents that open correctly in Excel
  • Preview table before you download, and files of many megabytes
  • No upload, no sign-up, no row limit beyond Excel's own

Questions

How is nested JSON turned into columns?

Each value inside a nested object gets its own column named with dots, so {"customer": {"name": "Ana"}} becomes a column called customer.name. Lists of plain values, such as tags, are joined into one cell with semicolons; lists of objects are kept as JSON text in their cell so nothing is lost.

My JSON starts with { and not [. Will it work?

Yes. Many APIs wrap the records, as in {"data": [...]} or {"results": [...]}. The converter finds the list inside and uses it for the rows, and when there is more than one list you can choose it under Rows from.

Why does my CSV show strange characters in Excel?

Excel needs a hint that a CSV file uses UTF-8, or accents and symbols come out garbled. Keep Open correctly in Excel ticked and the hint is added. In countries where Excel expects semicolons, choose Semicolon as the separator, or download an Excel file instead.

CSV or Excel: which should I download?

CSV is plain text that every spreadsheet, database and programming tool reads. An Excel file opens with the header row frozen and filters ready, keeps numbers as numbers, and avoids separator and character-set problems, so it is the better choice if you will work in Excel.

Are long numbers such as IDs kept exactly?

Yes, in current browsers. Whole numbers longer than 15 digits, such as order or account IDs, keep every digit. Older browsers may round the last digits of very long numbers.

How big a file can I convert?

Files of tens of megabytes work on a computer. An Excel sheet holds up to 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns and 32,767 characters in a cell, according to Microsoft's Excel specifications and limits, so larger tables should be saved as CSV.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The conversion happens in your browser, so API responses, customer lists and anything with keys or personal details never leave your device.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up and no limit on the number of conversions.
