How to use A4 to Letter PDF Converter

Takes about 1 minute. You need a PDF file.

  1. Choose your PDFPress Choose a PDF file or drop the PDF into the box. It opens in your browser and is not uploaded; the size it has now is shown.
  2. Pick the new sizeChoose A4, Letter or another size, decide whether the content should fit, fill or keep its size, and check page 1 in the preview.
  3. Resize and savePress Resize PDF. The new file downloads; your original is not changed.
Resize PDF Pages: Change PDF pages between A4, Letter, Legal and other sizes without blurring the text.

Letter is already chosen. Drop in the A4 PDF, check page 1 in the preview and press Resize PDF: every page becomes 8.5 by 11 inches with the content scaled to fit, which leaves a narrow white strip at each side, or scaled to fill if you would rather lose a sliver at the top and bottom. Text stays sharp and selectable. The PDF never leaves your browser.

How it works

A4 to Letter PDF Converter is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.

Why A4 files print oddly in the US

A4 is taller and narrower than Letter. A US printer given an A4 file either shrinks it, crops the bottom, or refuses to print until the paper size is changed. A file already on Letter avoids all three.

Questions

Which should I pick, fit or fill?

Fit for anything with text near the edges, such as letters, forms and reports. Fill for photos and full-bleed artwork, where a sliver lost at the top and bottom is better than a white border.
