How to use XML to JSON
- Choose the formatsPick From and To at the top, or leave them and let the tool read what you paste as what it looks like.
- Paste or open the filePaste into the left box, or press Open a file or drop one on the box. The result appears on the right as you type.
- Copy or downloadSet the indent or XML names under Options if you need to, then press Copy or Download.
Paste an XML document and read it as JSON: each element becomes a key, attributes become keys starting with @, text beside child elements becomes #text, elements repeated under one parent become an array, and numbers and true or false in text are read as values unless you turn that off. A malformed document is reported with the line of the first error. Nothing is sent anywhere.
How it works
XML to JSON is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.
One element or a list
A single <item> under a parent becomes an object and two or more become an array, because the XML itself does not say whether a list was intended. If your code expects an array always, check for both when there may be one item.
Questions
What happens to namespaces?
Prefixed names such as soap:Body are kept as written, prefix and all, and xmlns attributes appear as @xmlns keys.
