How to use UTM Generator
- Paste the addressType or paste the page the campaign links to. A bare domain gets https:// added.
- Fill in source and mediumType where the traffic comes from and the kind of channel, then the campaign name and any of term, content and ID.
- Copy the linkPress Copy link. It is saved to your recent links on this device, so the next link in the campaign can start from it.
Paste the page address, type the source and campaign, and copy the tagged link; the medium starts as email on this page and the common sources and mediums are suggested as you type. Every value is lowercased and spaced the same way so a campaign reports as one row, and recent links stay on this device so the next post or email starts from the last one.
How it works
UTM Generator is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
One campaign, many links
A campaign usually has several links: a newsletter, two social posts, an ad. Keep source, medium and campaign identical across them and change only utm_content to tell the links apart, then the campaign totals in one row and the content breakdown shows which link worked.
Questions
Should the newsletter link use source newsletter or the email tool's name?
Either, as long as it never changes. Many teams use the tool's name (mailchimp, klaviyo) as the source and email as the medium; others use newsletter. Pick one and keep it.
