How to use Sort Lines
- Paste the listPut one item per line in the left box. The sorted result appears on the right at once.
- Pick the optionsChoose how to sort and tick Remove duplicates or Reverse the order if you need them.
- Copy the resultCopy it, download it as a text file, or click Use as input to apply another step.
Paste a list, one item per line, and sort it A to Z or Z to A in natural order, so item 9 comes before item 10, or by the first number in each line, by length, or at random. Remove duplicate lines, ignoring case if you like, reverse the order, trim stray spaces and drop blank lines. The counts show lines in, lines out and duplicates removed; copy the result, download it, or send it back as input for the next step.
How it works
Sort Lines is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
Straight to one job
Remove Duplicate Lines · Reverse Lines
A list, put in order
Paste any list, one item per line, and get it back sorted: names, keywords, email addresses, product codes, file names, tags. Sorting is natural, so item 9 comes before item 10 instead of after item 1, and letters with accents sit where a reader expects them. Sort by the first number in each line to order prices, sizes or scores, by length to find the longest entries, or shuffle for a random draw. The result updates as you change any option, and the count shows how many lines went in and came out.
Removing duplicates
Tick Remove duplicates and every repeated line after the first is dropped, with the number removed shown beside the result. Lines are compared after trimming spaces at either end, so a stray space does not keep a duplicate alive, and Ignore upper and lower case treats Apple and apple as the same. Without sorting, the first appearance of each line keeps its place, which is what you want for a mailing list or a keyword list exported from another tool.
Reversing
Reverse the order turns the list upside down: the last line becomes the first. Combine it with a sort for Z to A by number, or use it alone to flip a log or a timeline. Use as input sends the result back to the left box, so you can apply one step after another.
What this tool does not do
- It does not sort by a column in a spreadsheet; paste one column, or sort in the spreadsheet itself.
- It does not sort words inside a line; each line is one item.
What it does
- A to Z and Z to A in natural order, so 9 comes before 10
- Sort by the first number in each line, or by length
- Shuffle for a random order
- Remove duplicate lines, with or without matching case
- Reverse the order, trim spaces, drop blank lines
- Counts of lines in, lines out and duplicates removed
- No upload, no account, no sign-up
Questions
How do I sort lines alphabetically?
Paste the list, one item per line, and choose A to Z. The sorted list appears on the right; click Copy result.
Why does item 10 come after item 9?
The sort is natural: numbers inside a line are compared as numbers, the way people expect, not digit by digit.
How do I sort by number?
Choose Numbers, smallest first or largest first. The first number in each line is used, including decimals and thousands commas, so $1,200 sorts after $85. Lines without a number go to the end.
How do I remove duplicate lines?
Tick Remove duplicates. Every repeat after the first is dropped and the count of removed lines is shown. Tick Ignore upper and lower case to treat Apple and apple as the same.
Does removing duplicates change the order?
No. With Keep the order selected, each line stays where it first appeared; only later repeats are removed.
Can I reverse a list?
Yes. Tick Reverse the order and the last line becomes the first. With a sort selected, it reverses the sorted list.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit. Lists of a hundred thousand lines sort in a moment on a typical computer.
Is my list sent anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is stored.
Is it free?
Yes, completely free, with no sign-up.
