Markdown to HTML Converter: Turn Markdown into HTML, or a web page into clean Markdown, with the result previewed as you type.

Paste or type Markdown and get HTML at once, with a live preview beside it, or switch direction and paste HTML, a fragment or a whole page, to get clean Markdown. GitHub-style tables, task lists and strikethrough are understood both ways, code blocks keep their language, and the HTML to Markdown side lets you choose heading, bullet and code styles. Open a .md or .html file, copy the result or download it, as a fragment or a full styled web page. The preview runs no scripts.

How it works

Markdown to HTML Converter is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.

Straight to one job

Markdown and HTML, both ways

Markdown is how README files, GitHub comments, Notion and Obsidian pages, static-site posts and many chat tools are written: # for a heading, ** for bold, a dash for a list. HTML is what a browser, an email builder or a content management system needs. This page turns one into the other as you type, with a live preview beside it, so you can paste a README and get HTML for a website, or paste a web page and get clean Markdown for your notes or docs.

What carries over

Headings, paragraphs, bold, italic, links, images, quotes, ordered and nested lists, code spans and fenced code blocks with their language, horizontal rules and, with the GitHub style option on, tables with their column alignment, task lists and strikethrough. Going from HTML, scripts and styles are dropped, a whole page is cut down to its body, and tables become Markdown tables when they are simple enough to be one. Layout, colours and classes have no Markdown form, so they are left behind, which is usually the point.

The preview is safe

The preview runs in a frame with no permission to run scripts, so HTML you paste from elsewhere cannot do anything on this page. Download the result as a fragment ready to paste into a page, or tick the option to save a full web page with simple, readable styling.

What this tool does not do

  • It does not fetch a page from a web address; open the page, copy its HTML and paste it.
  • It does not convert Word documents or PDFs; save those as HTML first.
  • It does not keep custom styling, since Markdown has none.

What it does

  • Markdown to HTML and HTML to Markdown, switch with one click
  • Live preview, and the code view to copy
  • GitHub tables, task lists and strikethrough
  • Code blocks keep their language
  • Choose heading, bullet and code style for Markdown output
  • Open .md or .html files; download a fragment or a full web page
  • No upload, no account, no sign-up

Questions

Which Markdown does it understand?

CommonMark, the standard most tools follow, plus the GitHub additions: tables, task lists, strikethrough and bare links. Turn the GitHub option off for strict CommonMark.

Can I convert HTML back to Markdown?

Yes. Switch to HTML to Markdown and paste a fragment or a whole page; the head, scripts and styles are dropped and the body becomes Markdown.

Will my table survive?

Markdown tables with alignment become HTML tables. Going the other way, a simple HTML table becomes a Markdown table; one with merged cells has no Markdown form and is kept as HTML.

Is it safe to paste HTML from another site?

Yes. The preview runs in a frame with no permission to run scripts, so pasted code cannot do anything on this page or your device.

Why do single line breaks disappear?

In Markdown a single line break joins the lines into one paragraph. Leave a blank line between paragraphs, end a line with two spaces, or tick the option to treat single breaks as breaks.

Can I get a complete web page?

Yes. Tick Download as a full web page and the HTML file includes a title from your first heading and simple, readable styling, ready to open in any browser.

Is anything sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is stored.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up.
