How to use Markdown Preview

Takes about 1 minute. You need Markdown or HTML to convert.

  1. Pick a directionMarkdown to HTML or HTML to Markdown at the top. Switching carries the result across.
  2. Paste or openType, paste or drop a .md or .html file into the box. The preview updates as you type.
  3. Copy or downloadOpen the code view to see the HTML or Markdown, then copy it or download it as a file.
Markdown to HTML Converter: Turn Markdown into HTML, or a web page into clean Markdown, with the result previewed as you type.

Type or paste Markdown on the left and see it rendered on the right, the way GitHub and most documentation sites show it, with tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks. Check a README, an issue or a post before publishing it, then copy the HTML if you need it elsewhere.

How it works

Markdown Preview is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.

Checking a README

Paste the README and look for the usual slips: a table without its divider row, a list that needs a blank line before it, or a code block whose closing fence is missing.

Questions

Does it match GitHub exactly?

Very closely for text, tables, lists and code. GitHub adds a few extras of its own, such as mentions, emoji shortcodes and diagrams, which appear here as plain text.
