How to use GUID Generator
- Pick the versionVersion 4 for a random id, 7 for ids that sort by time, or 5 with a namespace and name for an id that is always the same.
- Set the count and formatType how many you need and tick upper case, no hyphens, braces or quoted as your code wants.
- Copy or downloadPress Generate again for a fresh set, then Copy all or Download .txt.
Five fresh GUIDs in braces are ready when the page opens, the form Windows registry keys, COM and many .NET and SQL Server tools expect; untick In braces for the plain form, tick Upper case for the registry style, and raise the count for a batch. GUID and UUID are the same 128-bit identifier; these are version 4, random, from the browser's secure random source.
How it works
GUID Generator is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.
Where GUIDs turn up
Registry keys, COM class ids, SQL Server uniqueidentifier columns, .NET Guid values, installer product codes and Office add-in manifests all take a GUID. Paste one into Check a UUID to confirm it is well formed.
Questions
Is a GUID different from a UUID?
No. GUID is the Microsoft name for the same identifier. The braces and upper case are only how it is often written on Windows.
