Common questions

Can I convert books bought from an ebook store?

Usually not. Most ebook stores protect the books they sell so they only open in their own apps, and this converter does not remove that protection. Your own EPUB files, books from publishers who sell them without protection, and free public domain books convert fine.

Does the PDF look the same as in my ebook app?

It follows the book's own layout for headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and pictures, set in a clear book typeface on real pages. Special fonts the book brings with it are replaced, and decorative background colours are left out so the pages print well.

Can I search and copy the text in the PDF?

Yes. The text is real text, not pictures of pages, so you can search the PDF, select and copy passages, and have it read aloud.

Is the table of contents kept?

Yes. The book's contents become bookmarks in the PDF, so you can jump to any chapter from the sidebar of your PDF reader, and links inside the book, such as footnotes, still work.

Which page size should I choose?

US Letter or A4 if you will print on ordinary paper. A5 or 6 × 9 inch if you will read on a tablet or e-reader, where smaller pages mean less zooming. 6 × 9 inch is also a common paperback size.

Why is my book not converting?

The book may be copy protected, or it may be a fixed-layout book such as a comic, which is not supported yet. Books in scripts other than Latin, Greek and Cyrillic, such as Arabic, Hindi or Chinese, cannot be set yet either.

Are my books uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the book and makes the PDF on your own device, so nothing is sent to us or anyone else. The book typeface is loaded from this site the first time you use the converter.

Is it free?

Yes, completely free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the length of the book.
