How it works
Countdown to a Date is a web page that does its work on your own device. Everything you type or choose is worked out by your browser and never sent to a server, so nothing is stored and there is nothing to delete. There is no account, no sign-up and no limit on how often you use it.

How the countdown works
The countdown takes the date you pick, at midnight where you are unless you give a time, and subtracts the time on your device, four times a second. Because it uses your device's clock and time zone, two people in different places each count to their own local midnight, which is what you want for a holiday. For an event at one moment everywhere, such as a livestream, set the time and tell people your time zone when you share the link.
Holidays that move
| Holiday | Rule |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving (US) | Fourth Thursday of November |
| Black Friday | The day after Thanksgiving |
| Easter | First Sunday after the church's full moon on or after March 21 |
| Mother's Day (US) | Second Sunday of May |
| Memorial Day | Last Monday of May |
| Father's Day (US) | Third Sunday of June |
| Labor Day (US) | First Monday of September |
Days, weeks and sleeps
Under the clock, the time left is also given in weeks and days, and in sleeps, the number of nights before the day, which is how children count to Christmas. On the day itself the countdown says so, and once the day is over a holiday rolls on to next year. For the number of days between any two dates, or working days only, use the Date Difference Calculator.
