How to use Text Compare
- Paste both versionsPut the original on the left and the changed text on the right, or open a file into each box.
- Press CompareRemoved lines show in red, added in green, and the words that changed inside a line are highlighted. Switch to Inline on a phone.
- Use the resultClick a folded stretch to see every line, tick an ignore option to drop formatting noise, or copy the unified diff.
Paste two versions of a document, an email, a contract clause or any text and press Compare: the lines that differ are marked and the exact words that changed are highlighted inside them, in one column on this page so it reads well on a phone. Ignore spaces, case or blank lines to skip formatting changes, and copy the result as a unified diff if someone else needs to see it.
How it works
Text Compare is a web page that does its work on your own device. The file you choose is opened by your browser, changed there and saved from there; it is never sent to a server, so there is no copy of it anywhere to delete, no queue and no waiting for an upload. Most online tools of this kind send your file to their servers and work on it there, and many keep it for a while. This one does not. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how often you use it, and the result downloads the moment it is ready.
Checking a revised document
Paste the version you sent and the version that came back. Changes in wording show word by word; a whole paragraph in red with nothing green beside it was deleted, and green with nothing red was added.
Questions
Can it compare two Word documents?
Not directly. Copy the text out of each document and paste it, or save each as plain text first. The comparison is then the same.
