Salary to Hourly Calculator: A salary as an hourly wage, or an hourly rate as a salary, with every pay period in between.

Type your pay and say whether it is per hour, day, week, two weeks, half month, month or year. The same pay appears for every period at once: hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, monthly and yearly, with how many paydays each has in a year. Set your own hours a week, days a week and paid weeks a year for part-time work or unpaid leave. Changing the period keeps the same pay, so you can switch between them freely. Any currency sign.

How a salary becomes an hourly rate

Divide the yearly salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. A full-time week of 40 hours over 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, so a $60,000 salary is 60,000 ÷ 2,080 = $28.85 an hour. Going the other way, multiply the hourly rate by 2,080: $25 an hour is $52,000 a year. Paid vacation and paid holidays are still paid hours, so they stay in the 52 weeks; only unpaid time off comes out of it.

Biweekly is not twice a month

Paid every two weeks, you get 26 paychecks a year, so two months a year have three paydays. Paid twice a month, you get 24, on fixed dates such as the 15th and the last day. The same $60,000 salary is $2,307.69 every two weeks but $2,500 twice a month. Likewise a month is not four weeks: the monthly figure is the yearly pay divided by 12, about 4.33 weeks of pay.

What this calculator does not include

  • Tax and deductions. Every figure is gross pay; take-home pay is lower after income tax, Social Security and Medicare, and anything taken out for benefits or retirement.
  • Overtime. An hourly worker paid time and a half for long weeks earns more than the hourly rate × hours; use the Hours Calculator for a week with overtime.
  • Bonuses, commission, tips and the value of benefits such as health insurance.

Questions

How do I convert a salary to an hourly wage?

Divide the yearly salary by the hours you are paid for in a year. At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks that is 2,080 hours, so $50,000 a year is $50,000 ÷ 2,080 = $24.04 an hour.

How much is $25 an hour per year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, $25 × 2,080 = $52,000 a year before tax, which is about $4,333 a month or $2,000 every two weeks.

How many working hours are in a year?

A full-time year of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, including paid vacation and holidays. Take out any unpaid weeks by lowering Paid weeks a year.

What is the difference between biweekly and semimonthly pay?

Biweekly is every two weeks, 26 paychecks a year. Semimonthly is twice a month on set dates, 24 paychecks a year. The same salary gives a smaller biweekly check than a semimonthly one, because it is split 26 ways instead of 24.

Is the monthly pay four weeks of pay?

No. A month is on average about 4.33 weeks, so monthly pay is the yearly pay divided by 12, a little more than four weekly checks.

Does this show take-home pay?

No. Every figure is gross pay, before income tax, Social Security, Medicare and deductions for benefits. Your pay stub shows what is taken out.

Does it work for part-time jobs?

Yes. Change Hours a week and Days a week to your usual schedule, and the hourly, daily and weekly figures follow.

Is anything sent anywhere?
