How do I open a PSD file without Photoshop?

Choose the PSD file on this page. The picture appears straight away, and you can save it as a PNG or JPG that opens in any app, on Windows, Mac, Android or iPhone. Nothing needs to be installed.

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Areas that are transparent in Photoshop stay transparent in the PNG, including soft edges and shadows. JPG cannot hold transparency, so those areas become white.

Can I extract layers from a PSD?

Yes. Press Layers beside a file to see every layer with pixels in it. Save one as a transparent PNG at its own size, or press Download all layers (ZIP) to get them all, numbered from the top of the layer list.

Why does my PSD look different from Photoshop?

Most PSD files carry a finished copy of the picture, which is what you see here. Files saved with Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatibility turned off have no such copy, so the picture is put together from the layers instead, and layer effects, adjustment layers and some blend modes are left out. Turn that setting on in Photoshop's file handling preferences and save again for an exact result.

Are the colours right for CMYK files?

CMYK files made for print are converted to screen colours using the colour profile saved inside the file, the same way design apps show them. Files without a profile are converted with a general print setting, so bright colours may differ a little.

Can it open PSB and 16-bit or 32-bit files?

Yes. PSB, Photoshop's format for very large documents, opens like a PSD. 16-bit and 32-bit files are saved as ordinary 8-bit PNG or JPG, with 32-bit HDR brightness kept within the normal screen range.

Is there a size limit?

Pictures up to 120 megapixels open, such as 12,000 × 10,000 pixels. Very large files need plenty of memory, so a computer handles them better than a phone.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Your browser reads the Photoshop file on your own device, so client work and private designs are never sent to us or anyone else.
