Common questions

How do I find the HEX code of a colour in an image?

Open the image here, point at the colour and click or tap. The HEX code appears with a Copy button, along with RGB, HSL and CMYK.

Is my picture uploaded?

No. Your browser opens the picture on your device and reads the colours there. Nothing is sent to us.

Why does the colour change from pixel to pixel?

Photos have noise and texture, so neighbouring pixels differ slightly. Choose 3 × 3 or 5 × 5 average to get the colour of the area rather than one pixel.

Can I get the main colours of a picture?

Yes. The palette under the picture shows its 4 to 10 main colours and how much of the picture each covers. Copy them as HEX codes or CSS variables.

Are the CMYK values exact for printing?

No. They come from a simple formula. Printers use profiles for their press, paper and ink, which give different numbers, so treat them as a starting point.

Can I pick a colour from my screen, outside the browser?

In Chrome and Edge, yes: use Pick from screen. Other browsers do not offer this yet.

Does it work with iPhone photos?

JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, AVIF, BMP and SVG open directly. For an iPhone HEIC photo, turn it into a JPG with HEIC to JPG first.
