Common questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?
For most categories, a seller without a Store pays a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale, up to $7,500 for each item and 2.35% on anything above that, plus a per-order fee of $0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less and $0.40 on larger ones. Some categories have their own rates. The full table is on eBay's selling fees page, and this calculator shows the date it was last checked.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes, on both. eBay works out the final value fee on the total amount of the sale, which it defines as the item price, any handling charge, the shipping the buyer pays, the sales tax and any other fees. eBay collects the tax and sends it on, so it is never your money, but it still raises your fee. Type the buyer's sales tax rate and the calculator includes it.
Is there a separate payment processing fee on eBay?
eBay's selling fees page lists the final value fee and the per-order fee for a sale; it does not list a separate payment processing charge on top of them. Check your own eBay invoice to see exactly what you were charged.
Which eBay categories have different fees?
Books, magazines, films and music are charged 15.3%. Trading cards, comics, collectible card games, and coins and paper money are charged 13.25%. Guitars and basses are charged 6.7%, select heavy equipment 3%, and NFTs 5%. Jewelry, women's handbags, bullion, watches and athletic shoes change rate with the size of the sale. Choose the category and the rate that applies is shown under the list.
Why are the fees lower on sneakers over $150?
For athletic shoes, eBay charges 8% when the total amount of the sale is $150 or more, and no per-order fee, but 13.6% plus the per-order fee when it is under $150. The rate applies to the whole sale, not just the part above $150, so a sale just over the line costs noticeably less in fees than one just under it.
How much is the Promoted Listings fee?
You choose the ad rate yourself. eBay charges that percentage of the item's total sale amount, including shipping and tax, and only when the item sells within 30 days of a click on your ad. Put your ad rate under More options. See eBay's Promoted Listings page.
What is the eBay insertion fee?
The fee for creating a listing. Sellers without a Store get 250 free listings a month in most categories, and pay $0.35 for each listing after that. Tick the box under More options if you have used your free listings.
What price should I charge to make a certain profit?
Type the amount you want to keep into To keep this much and the calculator gives the item price that leaves that after every fee and cost. Because the fee changes rate as the sale grows, it closes in on the answer rather than using one formula, and rounds up to the cent.
Does this work for eBay Store subscribers or other countries?
Not yet. The rates are for sellers in the United States without a Store. Store subscribers pay different final value fees and get more free listings, and other eBay sites have their own fee tables.
Is this calculator connected to eBay?
No. It asks for no eBay login, reads nothing from your account and sends nothing anywhere. Everything is worked out in your browser. eBay is a trademark of eBay Inc. and this tool is not created by, endorsed by or affiliated with eBay.
