Common questions
How do I calculate an aspect ratio?
Divide the width and height by their greatest common divisor. 1920 × 1080 divides by 120 to give 16:9; 1024 × 768 divides by 256 to give 4:3.
What height is 16:9 at a given width?
Multiply the width by 9 and divide by 16. At 1280 wide the height is 720; at 3840 wide it is 2160.
What is the aspect ratio of 1366 × 768?
Exactly 683:384, which is 1.779:1, close enough to 16:9 (1.778:1) to be called 16:9.
What ratio is a 4 × 6 print?
2:3, or 3:2 on its side, the same shape as most camera pictures, so they print without cropping. An 8 × 10 print is 4:5 and crops a 3:2 picture.
What aspect ratio is a phone video?
Upright phone video is 9:16, such as 1080 × 1920, the shape used by Stories, Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
